In a shocking incident, at least 26 Indian Navy personnel tested positive for novel coronavirus. All these sailors were at the Western Naval Command in Mumbai and were serving at the INS Angre.

INS Angre is a shore-based logistics and support establishment. They have all been shifted to a south Mumbai-based Navy hospital and are undergoing treatment there, official sources said.

Most of these sailors are "asymptomatic" and are being monitored closely. It is said that these sailors got COVID-19 from one primary case, who had tested positive on April 7.

They are all residing in the same accommodation block at INS Angre, which has now been placed under containment.

Besides the entire living block, the INS Angre too is clamped under a lockdown.

All actions as per established COVID-19 protocol are being taken.

"There are no cases of infection on-board ships and submarines," an Indian Navy spokesperson said.

The Indian Navy continues to actively support the National effort in the fight against COVID-19.

With 2,711, active cases of COVID-19, Maharashtra, continues to be the worst impacted state in the country. These numbers were shared by state health ministry update on Friday evening. It is noteworthy that the active cases exclude deaths and recoveries from the list of confirmed cases.
