In recent developments, Maharashtra has announced free treatment for the rare fungal infection of Mucormycosis that is now being commonly seen in patients suffering from the coronavirus, both in active cases and in those who have recovered two to four weeks back.

According to sources, under the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Janaarogya Yojana, four hospitals in Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) area have been included which will provide treatment to the patients suffering from this fungal infection. These hospitals are, Navi Mumbai Municipal Public Hospital Sector 10 Vashi, Dr D. Y. Patil Hospital Sector 5 Nerul, Indravati Hospital Sector 3 Airoli, Terna Hospital Sector 22 Nerul.

Moreover, antifungal drugs are an important part of these treatments and are expensive. Therefore, the government has ordered these medicines to be made available by the concerned authority as per the prevailing rules and regulations of the government. In addition, they should be made available free of cost to the eligible beneficiaries of the hospital.
