On Monday, February 22, Maharashtra recorded 5,210 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 21,06,094. Currently, there are 53,113 active cases in the state. With 5,035 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 19,99,982.

More than 18 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 51,806. While 2,24,054 persons are under home quarantine, 1,891 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 94.96 per cent, and 2.46 per cent respectively.

Mumbai reported 760 new COVID-19 cases, 634 recoveries and four deaths on Monday, February 22, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,19,888. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 7,397 active cases and 3,00,180 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,446 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 94 per cent. At present 31,46,,722 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 54 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 876 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

Meanwhile, India reported 10,584 new cases, 13,255 recoveries and 78 deaths taking the tally up to 1,10,16,434 on Monday, February 22. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,07,12,665 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,56,463 in the country. At present, there are 1,47,306 active cases. So far, 1,17,45,552 healthcare workers have been vaccinated in the country.
