Maharashtra crosses 4,200+ figure with 552 cases on Sunday

The state recorded 12 COVID-19 deaths on Sunday. Six of them were from Mumbai, four were from Malegaon, and one each were from Solapur and Ahmednagar.

On April 19, Sunday, Maharashtra recorded 552 new cases of coronavirus, taking the tally of patients to over 4,200 by the end of the day. The total number of recovered patients is 507, with 142 being discharged on Sunday. State Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that there are currently 3,470 patients in the state that are being treated.

As per the State Health Ministry, by April 19, Sunday, 72,023 tests had been carried out and 67,673 samples were tested negative. Currently, 87,254 Maharashtra citizens have been home-quarantined whereas 6,743 people have been directed institutional quarantine. The state recorded 12 COVID-19 deaths on Sunday. Six of them were from Mumbai, four were from Malegaon, and one each were from Solapur and Ahmednagar.

Among the deceased, four of them were male whereas eight were female patients. Six patients were from the 60+ age group, five were from the 40-60 age group and one was below 40 patient. There was no information if the four patients from Malegaon had pre-existing conditions. Among the remaining eight, six patients were suffering from either diabetes or high blood pressure or a heart condition. The number of deaths due to coronavirus in Maharashtra was 223 by the end of April 19.

Looking at the rise in the number of cases across the state, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had announced an extension for lockdown in the state till April 30. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his April 14 address to the nation announced that the lockdown had been extended till May 3.
