Panvel reported 73 new COVID-19 cases taking the tally up to 27,926 while 21 people have completely recovered in the last 24 hours. In addition to this, no death has been registered in Panvel municipal area on Friday, January 8. In total 26,844 have recovered and discharged while the death toll in Panvel is at 610. At present, there are 472 active cases in Panvel Municipal Corporation.

Among the new cases found in Panvel municipal area are 10 from Panvel, 13 from New Panvel, six from Khanda Colony, eight from Kalamboli, 10 from Kamothe, 25 from Kharghar and one from Taloja. While the recovered patients are five from Panvel, four New Panvel, four from Kamothe and eight from Kharghar.

On Friday, January 8, Maharashtra recorded 3,693 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 19,61,975. Currently, there are 51,838 active cases in the state. With 2,890 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 18,58,999.

More than 73 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 49,970. While 2,42,585 persons are under home quarantine, 3,015 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 94.75 per cent, and 2.55 per cent respectively.

Meanwhile, India reported 18,222 new cases, 19,253 recoveries and 228 deaths taking the tally up to 1,04,31,639 on Friday, January 8. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,00,56,651 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,50,798 in the country. At present, there are 2,24,190 active cases. According to the ICMR, 18,02,53,315 samples have been tested up to January 8.
