On Monday, March 8, Maharashtra recorded 8,744 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 22,28,471. Currently, there are 97,637 active cases in the state. With 9,068 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 20,77,112.

More than 22 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 52,500. While 4,41,702 persons are under home quarantine, 4,098 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 93.21 per cent, and 2.36 per cent respectively.

Mumbai reported 1,008 new COVID-19 cases, 956 recoveries and four deaths on Monday, March 8, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,34,572. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 10,779 active cases and 3,11,407 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,504 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 93 per cent. At present 34,34,610 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 20 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 193 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

Meanwhile, India reported 15,388 new cases, 16,596 recoveries and 77 deaths taking the tally up to 1,12,44,786 on Monday, March 8. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,08,99,394 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,57,930 in the country. At present, there are 1,87,462 active cases.
