Amidst the rising COVID-19 cases, a Covid Health Center was inaugurated on Monday, April 12, 2021, at the Worli-based Nehru Science Center. As per reports, this will be a dedicated Corona Health Center with a capacity of 150 beds.Besides this, the Poddar Ayurvedic College also has a COVID Care Center with a capacity of 225 beds. 

The inaguration of the same was held online in the presence of State Environment Minister and Guardian Minister of Mumbai Suburban District Aaditya Thackeray. He took to Twitter to share the same.

The capacity of patients at the existing dedicated Corona Health Center at the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) in Worli has also been increased from 500 to 800. Efforts are underway to complete the process in the coming weeks, whereby a total of 1175 beds will be provided to Nehru Science Center, Poddar College and NSCI, with an aim to facilitate the treatment of coronavirus patients. 

Moreover, it is noteworthy that out of these 70 per cent of the total beds have been provided with oxygen supply facilities.

Present at the online event were Mumbai Mayor Kishori Kishor Pednekar, BEST Committee Chairman Ashish Chemburkar, G / South Ward Committee Chairman Datta Narvankar, Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Sanjeev Jaiswal, Corporator Hemangi Worlikar, Corporator Santosh Kharat, Deputy Commissioner (Circle 2) Vijay Balamwar, G / South Division  Assistant Commissioner Sharad Ughade among others.

Coronavirus cases in Mumbai are on an all-time high and the city has been one of the most affected with the second wave of infections. Observing the same, the state government has imposed strict guidelines and restrictions to curb the spread. The city and other districts in Maharashtra are witnessing a night curfew and a weekend lockdown, whereby many activities have been restricted. Moreover, the government also aims to impose a strict lockdown, the decision for which will be take in the next few days after discussion with the experts and cabinet ministers.
