All medical tests should be made available in Mumbai's government hospitals: Rahul Narvekar

Quality medical facilities should be provided to patients in government hospitals and they should not be sent to private medical laboratories for medical tests, said Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar.


A meeting was held in the Legislature on Wednesday afternoon regarding the problems of Sir J.J. Hospital, G.T. and Saint George hospital. In this meeting, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar, Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif were also present. In this meeting, instructions were given to submit a proposal regarding creation of posts for supply of money and manpower.

Assembly Speaker Narvekar said that the number of patients coming to these government hospitals in Mumbai is high. Since the necessary machines for medical examination are available, services in this regard should be provided to the patients. Also, reports of medical tests for which one has to go to private labs should be submitted immediately. He also said that action will be taken for supply of relevant machinery and manpower.


Both the closed cath labs of JJ Hospital should be opened within the next six weeks. Also the mortuary should be repaired. Necessary action reports should be submitted within a week to complete the work of the newly constructed mortuary. Haffkine (Institute of Training, Research and Testing) funds should be allocated to the hospital in respect of purchase of CT scan as well as MRI machines.


The hospital will have to complete the machine purchase process in a short time. Where there are mortuaries, yet employees are not available, proposals for creation of posts should be submitted soon. All medical facilities should be made available to general patients coming to government hospitals.
