The public health department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will go door-to-door to conduct medical check-ups to prevent the spread of Tuberculosis (TB) in Mumbai.

The survey will start today, November 15 and end on Thursday, November 25 and will be conducted from 9 am to 4 pm. In areas where the effect of TB will be more, the people in that area will be tested for TB. For this campaign, nearly 876 teams will be working.

BMC’s executive health officer, Dr Mangala Gomare, has said that if the individual is not home, the team will visit again.

For the suspected patients, sputum tests and X-ray tests will be conducted. They will also be issuing special vouchers to the suspected patients to get the X-Ray test done at designated private centres, free of cost.

Assistant health officer Dr Pranita Tipre said the symptoms of TB include coughing for more than 14 days, fever for more than two weeks, significant weight loss, bleeding from the sputum. The person can also have chest pain and swelling in the neck. If an individual is found experiencing such symptoms, they should get tested, she added.

Meanwhile, 72 cases of malaria, 47 cases of dengue, and six chikungunya cases were reported in the first week of November
