Over the last few months, ever since Mumbai has experienced the coronavirus outbreak, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has noticed a shortage of doctors and other medical staff. Officials at the BMC have requested the absent medical officers and employees to return to work for the duties. However, many did not respond to the request.

The recent update released, Municipal Corporation has given a notice of 72 hours asking medical officers and employees to return to duty, if they have not been presented since March 23, 2020. If anyone fails to respond and return after this period, officials will take necessary action and they may be removed from service.

Over the last many weeks, doctors and other staff at several hospitals across the city have been working relentlessly. However, due to the implementation of the lockdown, many medical officers and employees are not able to show up or have not shown up for work at assigned hospitals. Several notices have been released by the BMC, but many months have passed and they have failed to respond.

The stern decision has been taken to ensure or the staff is present and if they fail to return or respond in these 72 hours, they will have to submit an absence letter stating a proper reason. If needed, a physical health certificate can be obtained from the medical examiners, the department heads, assistant commissioner at the BMC. Furthermore, if the reason mentioned in the declaration form turns out to be false, officials will take necessary action.

Besides these, any employee or officer who are above the age of 55 years who are disabled and/or have chronic conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and are undergoing dialysis, are exempted from attending the duty. The clarification has been released by the municipal authorities.
