The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) additional commissioner Suresh Kakani has directed to conduct a detailed probe into the suspected “fraud” COVID-19 vaccination camp at a housing society in Kandivali’s complex.

A deputy municipal commissioner (DMC) will be heading the inquiry. The officer has been given 48 hours to investigate the matter and submit the report.

As part of a vaccination camp at Hiranandani Estate Society on May 30, around 390 people received Covishield doses at INR 1,260 per person inside the society premises. Residents stated that a facilitator, Rajesh Pandey, got in touch with society committee members claiming to be a representative of Kokilaben Ambani Hospital.

As per the complaint filed by Hiranandani Heritage Residents Welfare Association (HHRWA), a COVID-19 vaccination camp was arranged by the residential complex on May 30. However, later they discovered that the Co-WIN portal did not have any record of the people who participated in the drive and the certificates received after getting the jab were in the name of different hospitals. The residents were issued vaccination certificates in the name of Nanavati Hospital, Lifeline Hospital and NESCO Covid Camp, among others, RWA said.

The BMC is now taking certificates from the residents of society. They will be verified from the Co-WIN app and nodal officers. If there is any foul play, loopholes or irregularities, the DMC-level officer will file an FIR in the matter.

Citizens must enter into a memorandum of understanding with private hospital vaccination centres before vaccinating in their housing organization, said BMC official.

Each private vaccination centre is given a registration number by the Co-WIN system. With this in mind, citizens and housing organizations should contact the medical health officer in their department regarding the registration of a private vaccination centre.

In addition to concluding a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the concerned organization for immunization by a private immunization centre, the identity card of the staff coming for immunization by that centre should be verified. Proper verification should be done in that regard.

Beneficiaries should be urged to get the digital certificate immediately after vaccination, the administration said.

In case of any suspicious matters in this regard, the concerned medical health officer in your department should be contacted, a humble appeal is being made by the BMC administration.

The camp was organised by Rajesh Pandey. Citizens of the society had said that he had introduced himself as a representative of Kokilaben Ambani Hospital.

However, no one received the message after the vaccination. Citizens also said that they did not show any symptoms or side effects after taking the vaccine.

The hospitals in whose names the certificates were issued have revealed that they have not conducted vaccination camps. Hence, these citizens understood that they were given a bogus vaccine.
