In order to contain the spread of coronavirus emphasis is being given on vaccination across Maharashtra. However, due to vaccine shortage, the vaccination drive is being hampered.

Therefore, the state minister Aaditya Thackeray said that Maharashtra, worst-hit by pandemic, is considering looking at the possibility of importing vaccines directly for the use of citizens in Mumbai.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been instructed to look into the possibility of procuring vaccines globally in view of the adequate availability of vaccines in Mumbai.

Taking it to Twitter, he said that this decision has been taken after discussions with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to make vaccination drive in the city faster and more effective.

In a series of tweets, he said work was also on to ensure those not well-versed with technology or those who are unable to operate the CoWin app get access to vaccines in time.

"Looking at the need for adequate vaccines to ensure that vaccination is swift & efficient, after discussing the issue with CM Uddhav Thackeray ji, as guardian minister of Mumbai, we have asked @mybmc to explore possibilities of global procurement of vaccines," he tweeted.

"Our efforts to increase vaccination centres are constantly on going and the @mybmc shall be having a centre in every municipal ward, along with a drive in vaccination centre across all zones of Mumbai, on my humble request to @mayor_mumbai @KishoriPednekar ji and MC Chahal ji," Thackeray said in another tweet.

Moreover, in an interview with a popular media publication, Thackeray stated that the state government and BMC manages to globally procure vaccines, they have a "roadmap" to vaccinate the country's financial capital in around three weeks. The cost, he said, is "not a factor" and the state government is looking at "procurement at the earliest".

The Worli MLA said BMC, on Monday, May 10, issued guidelines on housing societies partnering with hospitals for inoculation within society complexes.

He also appealed to all other cities in the state to conduct drive-in vaccination campaigns for quick and convenient vaccination of people above 65 years of age along with specially abled citizens.
