According to reports, the COVID-19 third wave will experience some key changes in the way patients are hospitalized across Mumbai.

COVID-19 Jumbo centres are likely to act as the first line of response whereas medical colleges are touted to be used as well once field hospitals have saturated. According to the civic authorities, the idea is to ensure that medical colleges like LTMG, KEM, Nair and RN Cooper, carry on treating other ailments.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 Jumbo facilities, including NESCO in Goregaon and Richardson and Cruddas in Byculla, and dedicated Covid Hospital SevenHills in Marol will be among the facilities to handle the initial load once coronavirus cases experience a hike. Once these centres have crossed 50 per cent of their capacity, the jumbos at Mulund and BKC will be activated. In terms of ICUs, Dahisar jumbo with 100 beds is likely to get operationalised.

On the other hand, Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced that on Monday, July 12, it will resume the vaccination drives at the state and civic-run centres across the city after a gap of three days.

According to reports, due to a lack of adequate stocks of vaccines, the inoculation drive was cancelled on July 9 and 10 at government and municipal centres in Mumbai. However, the vaccination program was closed on Sunday as a regular off.

On Monday, vaccination will take place between 9 am and 5 pm. The vaccination centres take 50 per cent of beneficiaries by appointment, and 50 per cent through on-spot walk-ins registrations.
