The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to ramp up the vaccination drive for women in Mumbai. It has been observed that women have received less response to vaccination since a few months amid ongoing festivals.

This development came days after the health department in a letter mentioned that nine districts, including Mumbai and Pune, in the state have been told to improve the vaccination of women beneficiaries.

The civic body has decided to dedicate one day a week for women across the city. The next two weeks will be a two-day special drive to vaccinate women on an experimental basis.

Earlier, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) had started this initiative to organize a special vaccination for women citizens in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The Thane civic body had decided to conduct the special vaccination campaign for COVID-19 at Parking Plaza one day in the fourth week of every month.

According to reports, nearly 47,13,523 women (42.32 per cent) have been vaccinated so far in Mumbai. Meanwhile, 63,07,471 men and 1,182 pregnant women have been vaccinated till September 13.

Moreover, the BMC administration has also made an effort to have a vaccination centre near the house in every ward for the convenience of women.

Despite facing a lot of ups and downs, with the vaccination drive getting suspended at public centres over two dozen times due to unavailability of stock, the city has administered 1.07 crore doses, which includes the complete vaccination of 32 lakh people.
