The Bombay High Court on Thursday asked the Maharashtra Government to spread its information campaign on the prevention of coronavirus among children.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice G S Kulkarni said that the state must think about broadcasting the appropriate dos and don’ts on local news channels to make sure the information is taken to every corner of the state, particularly in rural regions. The HC was hearing a handful of public interest litigations (PILs) regarding the spread of COVID-19 in Maharashtra.

The Bombay HC passed these directions after Maharashtra Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbhakoni notified the court that the State Government had established a paediatric task force to curb and monitor instances of COVID-19 and its side effects among children.

Kumbhakoni also said that the state recently held a video conference between district health officials and 65,000 ASHA workers. He added that factors like the use of oximeters, prevention, as well as the identification of the symptoms were discussed during the video conference.

While the court praised the presentation made by the State Government, it asked why this wasn’t broadcast on a broader scale. “Why not broadcast this on Marathi TV and news channels? Give wide publicity to educate mothers, all stakeholders,” the court said.
