A few months ago, there was a shortage of tuberculosis drugs in the country, including Maharashtra. Keeping this in mind, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Union Government immediately started the process of procuring TB drugs. But even today the stock of four-FDC and three-FDC types of medicines is available only for one month. It has been revealed that the stock of these medicines is enough to last till the end of March or April.

Therefore, if sufficient stock of medicines is not available in the next few days, there is a possibility that the central government's 'TB-free India' plan will be hampered. Keeping this in view, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued instructions to all the states of the country to procure medicines locally. However, as these medicines are not available locally, a big problem is facing the states.

A few months ago, there was a shortage of TB drugs across the country, including the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Bihar, Chhattisgarh. In this regard, anti-tuberculosis organisations and social workers in the country raised their voice. Taking cognizance of this, the central government immediately started procuring anti-tuberculosis drugs so that the 'TB-free India' campaign can be implemented more efficiently. For this, the procurement process of anti-tuberculosis drugs was started at the national level. After completing this process, purchase orders were also issued to the suppliers.

Accordingly, the supply of some medicines for tuberculosis also started from the suppliers. But four-FDC and three-FDC types of drugs are not available at the national level. The supply of these medicines is likely to be delayed due to technical difficulties. Keeping this in mind, the central government has given instructions to the state governments to purchase these medicines locally. While buying medicines, one should buy the medicines available in the market and related ingredients. Also instructions have been given to reimburse the cost of medicines to the patient if it is not possible to provide free medicines.

Availability of drugs locally is difficult

Medicines related to tuberculosis and AIDS are supplied by international companies. Therefore, these medicines are procured from the central government. Although some suppliers make these drugs available locally, they have limitations. So it is difficult for the state governments to procure these drugs locally. As a result, it is said by the social workers working against tuberculosis that it is impossible to get medicines locally.
