According to reports, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is likely to take a decision with regards to the lockdown in the state.

With the anticipation of the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic, and the receding COVID-19 cases currently, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has reportedly held a discussion urging him to either lift the coronavirus-induced curbs completely or tighten the restrictions amidst the possibility of the third wave.

Moreover, in a virtual meeting, Tope has asked the CM to take a decision regarding the same at the earliest. Speaking about the same, Tope stated that CM Thackeray has been informed about the problems being faced by the general citizens due to the pandemic. In addition, he stated that the Centre has expressed concern over the number of coronavirus cases in the state. Therefore, a final decision regarding the same can be expected in the upcoming days.

Restrictions imposed in the state of Maharashtra due to the second coronavirus (COVID-19) wave were relaxed recently as the number of cases has declined significantly over the last few weeks. Reports released by the state health department have shown that that patients recovering from the infection have been high across several districts, and this led to the decision of lockdown being lifted in the state.

However, the government has also been cautious about the infection spreading again and keeping the same in mind, cities have been categorised under five levels, the basis on which the unlock plan was announced. On the other hand, officials are also taking steps to ensure people do not flout COVID-19 norms as it could worsen the situation. Keeping this in mind, the government recently hinted that drastic steps could be taken regarding the lockdown and strict restrictions could be imposed again in districts that have high positivity rates.
