Coronavirus cases have reduced significantly across several districts in Maharashtra, and data reported about Navi Mumbai shows the the spread has been contained in the slums as well. Reports shared by the officials show that in comparison to the slums, COVID-19 cases are more in buildings and respective localities.

Even during the first COVID-19 wave, the cases were brought under control in the slums of Navi Mumbai, and in a similar manner, the administration has been successful in containing the spread. Slums in Turbhe were hotspots for the infection during both the waves, and necessary action was taken to ensure cases reduce in the locality. As per reports, currently only two patients from Indiranagar area are undergoing treatment for the infection.

On the other hand, the number of coronavirus patients in buildings and housing complexes have been more.

Data reveals that Navi Mumbai has a total of eight divisional offices and the largest slum is in the Turbhe locality which is governed by the Turbhe division office area. The locality also has four civic health centers and a large amount of population lives in the slums like Turbhe, Indiranagar, Pavne and Sanpada, making the area very dense.

Just like Dharavi, there was a significant surge in the number of patients in this area. However, with the help of municipal officials, health officers, staff, Asha Sevika, local social organizations and various social workers in the slum area, officials from the corporation were able to manage the outbreak of COVID-19 thereby bringing the cases under control.

Currently, cases in this area have reduced and a small number of patients are undergoing treatment for coronavirus.
