Even as the COVID-19 cases has not seen a gradual spike in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday evening, December 26, began taking preventing measures to curb the spread virus.

In this regards, the civic body has issued an advisory based on guidelines issued by the Union government on December 20 and 22 after a surge in cases in China, Japan, and the United States of America.

This development came days after the BMC said it would focus on rigorously implementing the vaccination drive.

Here’s list of detailed guidelines:

BMC has appealed citizens to wear masks in public and maintain Covid-appropriate behaviour including physical distancing rules.

The civic body also stressed the need to wash hands frequently with soap and water and quarantine at home when feeling sick in order to curb the spread.

The BMC is also focusing on the vaccination drive as only 15 per cent have taken the booster doses.

War rooms set up during the first wave of the Covid pandemic in 2020 are operational. 26 private hospitals have reserved 871 beds for the infection, and admission to all civic, state-run, and private hospitals will be supervised by 24-hour-a-day BMC war rooms that have been set up in its administrative wards.

Random testing of international patients has started at airports. However, the decision to start COVID testing at railway stations or bus stops as was done in the past has been not been taken yet.

As isolation rules will remain the same, hospitals have been instructed to keep their Covid beds ready. Though, measures like sealing of homes or entire floors in the building will not be followed as of now.

The civic corporation has also appealed to the citizens to work towards boosting their immune systems. In a social media post, it advised people to follow a nutritious and healthy diet that includes plenty of vegetables and fruits and to limit the consumption of sugar and salt and intake of oil and fatty foods.

The BMC also informed that Mumbai has an adequate supply of oxygen in case of need. The civic body has 27 pressure swing adsorption plants that could ensure close to 200 metric tonnes of liquid oxygen needed for the city every day.

Highlighting that elderly citizens and patients with diabetes and hypertension should take proper precautions, the civic body also asked citizens to take vaccination and precautionary dose.

These actions will play a critical role in controlling the spread of Covid-19 and maintaining the health and well-being of the community, the release stated.
