Municipal Commissioner Abhijeet Banger has informed that as soon as the suburban railway starts plying for the regular people, test centres for COVID-19 will be initiated outside the stations in Navi Mumbai.

The suburban railway system in Mumbai is now slowly opening up for everyone. Previously, the locals were ferrying only essential service personnel. Since Wednesday, women have been permitted to travel by the local trains.

As the local trains resume for the regular people, the cases of coronavirus are ought to witness a rise as well. Therefore, these test centres on the Harbour and Trans Harbour routes are said to provide some amount of relief with regards to detecting COVID-19 positive cases.

These COVID-19 test centres will be set up at Vashi, Sanpada, Juinagar, Nerul, Seawoods Darave, Belapur on the Harbor Line and Vashi, Sanpada, Turbhe, Koparkhairane, Ghansoli, Rabale, Airoli on the Trans Harbor line. The centre will have facilities for conducting RTPCR as well as antigen testing. Moreover, the commissioner has informed that the decision was taken to control the influx of patients and the necessary manpower has also been made available.

Meanwhile, the number of active cases of coronavirus infection in the country is now more than three lakhs lower than the peak that was achieved in the middle of October.
