Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday, March 18, asked divisional commissioners to ensure that restrictions announced to curb the spread of COVID-19 are implemented strictly in view of the spike in the number of infection cases.

While speaking in a virtual meeting with all Divisional Commissioners on immunization, Thackeray said even though the state is witnessing a steep spike in the number of daily cases, the vaccination drive has also gained momentum.

The Centre has allowed 134 private hospitals in the state for the vaccination drive, he said.

Moreover, Thackeray assured that in the next three to four months vaccination will be given to everyone in the priority group by increasing the speed of daily inoculation count.

Thackeray said administering three lakh vaccine doses daily should be the target. Considering the rising heat, facilities like drinking water and toilets should be provided at the vaccination centres, he added.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Thursday said the state holds the second position in the coronavirus vaccination drive, standing next only to Rajasthan.

According to reports, as many as 36,39,989 people have been vaccinated in Maharashtra since the drive commenced on January 16. As per the data compiled on Thursday, March 18, over 2.7 lakh people received the vaccine shots on Wednesday, March 17.
