The Maharashtra government has informed that the COVID-19 vaccine Covishield is to be administered at 511 centres for health, medical education, municipal hospitals in the state.

In a substantial development, the state has received 963,000 vials of the Covishield vaccine, of the 1 million to be provided by the Centre in the first lot, at its facility in Pune on Tuesday, January 12 to battle the coronavirus.

 As per reports, the state government is to start the distribution process once it receives a list from the Centre. Moreover, the priority group for the first round of vaccination has been decided which includes the health care workers and all employees of the government and private health institutions. The second group would include front line workers i.e. the state and central police forces, armed forces, home guards, municipal workers, etc. The third group includes all persons above 50 years of age and persons below 50 years of age with other ailments.

In addition, according to sources, there are cold storages available in the state, one at the state level, nine at the divisional level, 34 at the district level, 27 at the municipal level. Moreover, 3,135 cold chain centres are reportedly available; Walk-in Cooler - 21, Walk-in Freezer - 4, I.L.R. 4,153, Deep Freezer - 3,937.

Ahmednagar-21, Akola-5, Amravati-9, Aurangabad-18, Beed-9, Bhandara-5, Buldana-10, Chandrapur-11, Dhule-7, Gadchiroli-7, Gondia-6, Hingoli-4, Jalgaon- 13, Jalna-8, Kolhapur-20, Latur-11, Mumbai-72, Nagpur-22, Nanded-9, Nandurbar-7, Nashik-23, Osmanabad-5, Palghar-8, Parbhani-5, Pune-55, There are 511 centers in Raigad-7, Ratnagiri-9, Sangli-17, Satara-16, Sindhudurg-6, Solapur-19, Thane-42, Wardha-11, Washim-5 and Yavatmal-9.

On the other hand, there will be 511 centres for health, medical education, municipal hospitals in the state including 119 rural hospitals, 83 sub-district hospitals, 69 medical colleges, 59 civic health centres, 43 municipal hospitals, 23 primary health centres, 23 private hospitals, 22 district hospitals, 22 civic hospitals. Primary Health Centers, 8 General Hospitals, 7 Municipal Hospitals and 4 Women's Hospitals.
