Maharashtra state government has ensured all safety measures across many cities in the state as the number of positive cases saw an increase over the last two days. Reports as of March 16, 2020, confirmed that a total of 39 cases were reported positive in Maharashtra. However, the state also recorded the first death in Maharashtra on Tuesday morning.

On March 17, 2020, it was reported that a 65-year-old patient died due to Coronavirus, at Mumbai's Kasturba Hospital. Identified as a businessman, the patient had returned from Dubai, and was earlier admitted at Hinduja Hospital and later shifted to Kasturba for further treatment upon testing positive.

Officials state that the patient's medical history also mentioned diabetes and hypertension, due to which his immunity was low. Hence his recovery was not as quick as expected. Doctors are conducting the post-mortem and other necessary procedures.

She was kept under isolation for screening and reports yesterday stated the same.

Over the last two days, the numbers have seen an increase and keeping the same in mind, CM Uddhav Thackeray-led government announced a lock-down of the state, where malls, cinema halls, gyms, swimming pools, schools, colleges and other public areas were shut down until March 31, 2020. Officials also asked all the private companies to allow work from home.
