With the number of cases for COVID-19 increasing on a daily basis, it has been decided that all the 20 plus COVID-19 will be providing free treatment, tests and even bear the cost of food and medicines for all COVID-19 patients in the state. This announcement was done by Amit Deshmukh, Minister for Medical Education & Culture, Govt of Maharashtra on his Twitter handle.

He assured all the hospital that come under DMER, Ministry of Medical Education or Government of Maharashtra will be offering these services.

There is a notion that many people are not coming forward to get themselves tested due to the costs involved in the treatment and with this move, the state is trying to address this concern.


Apart from this Anil Deshmukh also Retweeted Aaditya Thackeray’s tweet which states that the state achieved a major landmark last night by conducting as many as one lakh tests for COVID-19. Aaditya Thackeray is the Cabinet Minister of Tourism and Environment Government of Maharashtra and he mentioned that more the tests, more people can be identified and that will lead to better safety for citizens.

On Friday, Maharashtra has also received permission from the Centre for conducting pool tests. With the help of Pool testing, an entire batch or batches of samples instead can be tested in one go instead of just one. It is expected that through the adoption of pool testing, the state will be able to conduct 10 times more tests.

Maharashtra at present is one of the worst impacted states in the country. There are currently 6,817 Coronavirus or COVID-19 positive cases in Maharashtra and the death toll stands at 301 deaths. At present, the mortality rate is 4.42 per cent while the national average is 3.16 per cent.
