The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) recently handed over a 1,008-bed facility at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The facility is being used to quarantine asymptomatic patients mostly and was constructed in just 15 days. Anticipating a further rise in the number of cases, MMRDA is now preparing another 1,000-bed facility at BKC for COVID-19 patients.
MMRDA Commissioner R.A. Rajeev had handed over the first hospital created at BKC to BMC recently. During the inauguration of the hospital, CM Uddhav Thackeray, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, Eknath Shinde, Balasaheb Thorat, Aaditya Thackeray, BMC Commissioner Iqbal Chahal were present. The hospital will start admission of patients from Friday.

MMRDA in its tweet announced about the new hospital and said that it has already started levelling work to initiate the construction of the second COVID-19 Hospital at BKC Grounds. The new facility will have 100 ICU beds & 900 Beds (Oxygen & Non-Oxygen).

Alongside, another jumbo modular hospital for COVID-19 patients is being constructed at Goregaon. Tourism Minister, Aaditya Thackeray tweeted about the same and said that Mumbai Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh and he visited the Goregaon Jumbo Modular hospital today to see the final touches to phase 1. Soon, the hospital, in the second phase two will ramp up to 3000 beds, 200 ICU and 50 dialysis beds for Coronavirus patients.

As of May 20, 6:45 pm, Maharashtra has conducted 2,93,998 tests for COVID-19. Out of which, 2,56,862 test reports came negative and 37,136 persons tested positive. According to the state health department, 3.86 lakh people have been home-quarantined so far whereas 21,150 persons have been institutionally quarantined.
