Over 5,000 people have been quarantined till now in Maharashtra: Rajesh Tope

Amid the increasing cases for the coronavirus or COVID-19, Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Wednesday informed that over 5,000 people in the state have been quarantined till now. The people who have been quarantined after they got in contact with 162 COVID-19 patients. 

While talking to the reporters, Rajesh Tope said that the state government has quarantines people who were at high risk of developing COVID-19 as they were ‘high-risk contact’.

“We have quarantined these ‘high-risk contact’ people as they are likely to be infected or are carriers of the coronavirus infection,” the media reported quoted Rajesh Tope as saying. 

Hinting that the number of cases for the coronavirus may increase in Maharashtra, the state health minister informed that more people will test positive for COVID-19 in the coming days. 

The ministry has also deployed over 4,000 health department staffers for surveillance and follow up of those in quarantine. 

The state government on Tuesday reviewed the ground level-situation amid the coronavirus outbreak. Thackeray visited the disaster management control room of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) which is taking lead in the executive of the lockdown in Mumbai. 

CM Uddhav Thackeray also held a meeting BMC Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi directing him to take concrete steps to curb the increasing number of positive COVID-19 cases in Mumbai. 

Earlier, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray held a meeting with the top officials of the state and BMC via video conferencing. BMC Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi appealed to civil servants to disseminate measures to avoid the coronavirus spread. 

The Maharashtra Governor and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray held a high-level meeting to review the preparedness for containing the spread of the deadly virus which has claimed 12 lives in the state.
