An update released by the health department on Sunday, April 12, 2020, revealed that 15 new coronavirus cases were identified in Dharavi, taking the total number in the locality to 43 cases. Besides this, two new cases were identified in Dadar too, and the total number of cases in this area has reached 13.

Nine out of these 15 patients were taken to the Rajiv Gandhi quarantine centre. Investigation revealed that all these new patients had come in contact with people infected with coronavirus in Madina Nagar and some other areas of the slums. Reports also state that these patients had also come in contact with the staff at Mumbai's KEM Hospital.

These 15 new patients also include two women, aged 20 and 24 years. Others are men between the age of 16 and 66 years.

Dharavi is Asia's largest slum, spread on an area of more than 2 hectares, and hence, the administration is well aware that it can be quite difficult to control the spread of coronavirus if strict action or plan is not made. Hence officials are prepared with a special plan for Dharavi, where Mumbai Police is using drones to find out people who are not following the norms of social distancing. These drones are also used to make necessary announcements on a regular basis.

Keeping the critical condition in mind, healthcare officials have decided to conduct door to door screening of patients, as this would help them identify cases if any. In a recent interview, Mumbai Live reporters visited Dharavi to understand the lives and businesses impacted due to coronavirus. Here's the coverage

Apart from Dharavi, two new COVID19 cases have also been reported in Dadar. While one is a 52-year-old woman living in Ambedkar Nagar, the second case is reported to be a 48-year-old male resident of at BMC Colony in Kasarawadi. With these new cases, Dadar has a total of 13 cases, where one each is from Dinkar Apartment, Saubhagya Apartment, Kasarawadi and Ambedkar Nagar, 5 from Tatewadi, 2 each from Sushrusha Hospital and Kelkar Road.
