Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-hit state in the country. For the second day in a row, the state witnessed more than 12,000 COVID-19 cases. The state reported 12,248 positive cases on Sunday, taking the total tally to 5,15,332 cases. The state registered 390 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the fatality toll to 17,757. 

As per the state health department, as many as 13,348 patients were cured and discharged in the past 24 hours. The total of recoveries across the state have reached 3,51,710 and there are currently 1,45,558 active infected patients in Maharashtra. 

Mumbai recorded 1,066 fresh coronavirus cases on Sunday, which took the total caseload of the city to 1,23,397. The total number of fatalities have reached 6,796 in the city with 48 more patients succumbing to the virus in the last 24 hours. The total number of recoveries have gone up to 96,586 and there are currently 19,718 active patients across the city.  

The adjoining areas that come under the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) are still witnessing a daily surge in the number of positive cases. The MMR recorded 12,183 new cases and 64 more deaths on Sunday. The total number of cases in the region have gone up to 1,43,486 and 3,942 patients have succumbed to the deadly infection.  

Pune reported 1,390 new positive cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total caseload of the region to 65,966 on Sunday. With 24 people succumbing to the infection, the death toll reached 1,540. Meanwhile, India registered 62,064 fresh cases on Sunday, taking the total caseload to 22,15,075. As many as 1,007 deaths were recorded which took the tally of casualties to 44,386, according to the Union Health Department.
