Mumbai Records 1,257 Fresh Coronavirus Cases, 55 New deaths

The city's densely populated slum area of Dharavi has recorded just six new coronavirus cases. According to the BMC, Dharavi has only 142 active cases.

The prevalence of the novel coronavirus is increasing day by day in the country. India is rapidly nearing the 13 lakh mark and just a day ago, Maharashtra witnessed more than 10,000 COVID-19 patients in a single day. Mumbai has recorded 1,257 fresh coronavirus cases and 55 patients have succumbed to the deadly virus on Thursday. The total number of coronavirus cases in the city have surged to 1,05,829 and the mortality count is nearing the 6,000-mark. However, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai is showing signs of success in containing the deadly virus.

Dharavi had registered just six new COVID-19 cases on Thursday. According to the BMC, the total tally of the densely populated slum has gone up to 2,513. The civic body also confirmed that there are just 142 active cases in Dharavi and that 2,121 people have recovered from the deadly virus. However, the civic body has stopped disclosing the death count of the region since last month.

Mumbai’s neighbouring areas have continued to see a significant amount of increase in positive cases since last month. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has witnessed a total of 3,972 new cases and 130 deaths in the last 24 hours. 

Meanwhile, Maharashtra has recorded 9,895 fresh positive cases on Thursday, taking the state's total tally to 3,47,502. In the last 24 hours, the state witnessed its highest COVID-19 related casualties with 298 new deaths. The fatality toll in Maharashtra is now at 12,854 and as per the health department, the state currently has 1,40,092 active cases.
