The state government plans to set up Covid-19 RT-CPR testing laboratories in all districts.

While India has crossed the 8 lakh mark in Covid-19 positive cases, the country’s worst-hit state Maharashtra has reached 2,54,427 cases with 7,827 fresh cases on Sunday. According to the state health ministry report, the overall death toll of Maharashtra has reached 10,289 with 173 new deaths.  


Mumbai has recorded 1,243 fresh Covid-19 cases and the total number has in the city has now reached 92, 988. Mumbai has recorded a total of 44 deaths in the past 48 hours taking the death toll to 5,288. While the city's densely populated slums of Dharavi have shown improvements in the past couple of days, the areas of Mira Bhayandar continue to be hit badly by the virus. With 243 new cases on Saturday, the area has reached a total of 5,449 Covid-19 cases and the casualty figures have hiked to 184. 


On Saturday, Legendary Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishekh Bachchan tested positive for Covid-19 in Mumbai. A day after that, Amitabh’s daughter-in-law, actress Aishwariya and granddaughter Aaradhya tested positive for the virus. All four bungalows of the veteran actor have been sealed and declared as containment zones by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), and the actor’s staff is being screened for Covid-19.

To contain the spread of virus, lockdown has been announced in various parts of Maharashtra, The lockdown in Thane district has been extended till July 19. The imposition of a complete lockdown in the areas of Pune, Pimrpri-Chinchwad and rural areas of Pune, starts today. The lockdown has been imposed for 10 days and during this tenure, only hospitals and medical and dairy stores are expected to remain open throughout these areas, as stated by media reports. 

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said in media reports that the state government is planning to set up Covid-19 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-CPR) testing laboratories in all districts. The CM has already inaugurated one laboratory at Jalna city in Marathwada through video conferencing.
