According to the BMC, the city currently has 23,893 active coronavirus cases and 73,555 recovered patients.

Mumbai has recorded 995 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking the city's total tally to 1,03,262. The fatality toll in the city has increased to 5,814, after 62 infected patients died on Tuesday. According to the data provided by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), out of the 62 patients who died, 46 patients had comorbidities. The civic body’s data also suggests that currently, the city has 23,893 active coronavirus cases. 

The BMC recently said in a statement to the media, that the COVID-19 situation in Mumbai is "in control" as the city has been recording less than 1,500 cases on a daily basis. The civic body also said that the city is taking proper preventive measures and is conducting about 6,000- 7,000 coronavirus tests daily.

The BMC has said that with 905 new cured patients, the city has reached the number of 73,555 recovered cases. Apart from this, the number of active cases in Mumbai city has also seen a drop since a month. Till June 20, Mumbai had 44 per cent active COVID-19 cases out of the total 65,239 cases. By July 20, the city only had 23 per cent active infections of the total 1.02 lakh cases.

While Mumbai is showing some improvement in the past few weeks, its neighbouring areas of Thane district, Kalyan-Dombivali and Navi Mumbai have seen a massive surge in coronavirus infected patients. The lockdown in those areas has also been extended till July 31, to curb the spread of the virus by the State Government. 

On Tuesday, Maharashtra recorded 8,369 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the state tally to 3,27,031, including 1,32,236 active cases, according to the state health department. With 246 deaths reported over the last 24 hours, the state has seen 12,276 fatalities so far due to the deadly virus.
