On Wednesday, August 19, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) stated that half its beds in the COVID-19 hospitals are empty. With the recovery rate as high as 89 per cent, the city has seen a massive decline in the number of coronavirus cases this month compared to the month of July.

According to the figures, the recovery rate for Thane happens to be the second-best in the country and the highest in the state. Only Delhi, with 90 per cent recovery rate is ahead of Thane.

In comparison, the recovery rate of Kalyan-Dombivali is 85 per cent whereas the recovery rate for NMMC and PMC is 82 per cent and 78 per cent respectively.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra on Wednesday, August 19, recorded 13,165 fresh cases of the coronavirus, propelling the state's COVID-19 tally to 6,28,642. Currently, there are 1,60,413 active cases in the state. With 9,011 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 4,46,881.

The positivity rate, recovery rate and fatality rate for the coronavirus in Maharashtra stand at 18.83 per cent, 71.09 per cent, and 3.35 per cent respectively.

On the other hand, 1,132 tested positive for the coronavirus in Mumbai taking the aggregate to 1,31,542 cases. However, the recovery rate of the Mumbai district remains constant at 80 per cent.
