According to reports, in Mumbai, the number of people in home quarantine has dropped by 16 per cent. Moreover, there has been a reported dip in the number of coronavirus cases too.

In recent developments, from 6.27 lakh coronavirus cases on April 10, the number has dropped to 5.25. Back in February, it had dropped below one lakh (stood at 99,217 on February 22). That was about the time the second wave of COVID-19 had started.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, May 9, PM Modi spoke to Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray with regards to the COVID-19 situation in the state. He further praised the state's efforts to fight the pandemic.

According to a statement from the CMO, the Prime Minister enquired about Maharashtra's COVID-19 situation and said that the state was fighting a good battle against the second wave. On the other hand, CM Thackeray informed PM Modi about the state’s preparations to face a possible third wave of the deadly virus.

This comes after Thackeray wrote a letter to the Prime Minister on Saturday seeking the Centre’s permission for a separate mobile application for COVID-19 vaccination in the state. The CM said he received complaints of frequent glitches in the Cowin platform, which is used to register for vaccination.

Furthermore, there has been a sudden surge in the number of citizens wanting to register for the vaccination nationally as there is a fear about the app malfunctioning or crashing, as it did on day 1 of registration for the 18-44 age group.
