The Maharashtra government, earlier this week, approved the transfer of a 3219.20-square-meter land parcel in Dombivli East for constructing an advanced cancer hospital. This project has faced delays since its proposal in 2016. Now, it will proceed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

The hospital will offer 150 beds, with 100 beds dedicated to radiation therapy for cancer patients. Furthermore, 50 beds will be allocated for maternity care, including postpartum services.

The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) had proposed this hospital to address the growing healthcare needs in the region. The Urban Development Department’s recent order permits Apulki Health Care Pvt. Ltd. to lease the land for 30 years at a nominal rate of INR 1 annually.

This approval comes after years of setbacks, including the pandemic, which had stalled the project's progress. MP Shrikant Shinde and PWD Minister Ravindra Chavan had proposed this new hospital.

The KDMC announced in August 2023 that the tender process had started. The bhoomi poojan ceremony for the hospital was performed by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on March 4. The event also included the dedication of a new fish market at Dattanagar Aire Road and the online inauguration of a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and an autopsy centre at Shastri Nagar Hospital.
