As the world fights against the deadly coronavirus, there are many laboratories, pharmaceutical companies and scientists around the world, trying to find the vaccine and ways to deal with this novel microorganism. Amid the race is Dr Seema Mishra, who has joined the race to develop the vaccine for Coronavirus (nCOV).

Dr Mishra is a faculty of Biochemistry at the University of Hyderabad and reports state that her team has been working on developing the vaccine for Coronavirus. These potential vaccine candidates are called T cell epitopes and are said to fight COVID-19, against all the structural and non- structural proteins of novel coronavirus-2 (2019-nCoV).

Currently, the procedure is in the stage of experimental, and talking about the same, the press release from the university said, "The vaccine candidates are small coronaviral peptides, molecules which are used by cells to trigger an immune response to destroy cells harbouring these viral peptides. Using powerful immunoinformatics approaches with computational software, Seema Mishra, a faculty member designed these potential epitopes in a manner that can be used to vaccinate entire populations."

As per standard procedure, developing a vaccine usually takes up to 15 years, keeping all the tests and trials in mind. Bu tin this case, since the team is using powerful computational tools, officials were able to quickly enlist these vaccine candidates in about 10 days.

Emphasising on the fact that social distancing is currently the best way to avoid infections, the release also stated that the team will take some more time for vaccination as work on these candidate epitopes will be performed in due course.
