Mumbai's COVID-19 doubling rate drops to 165 days

1,712 new COVID-19 cases were found in Mumbai taking the caseload up to 3,45,659 while four people have lost their lives.

As the number of cases are on a rise in the city and state, the doubling rate in Mumbai has dropped to 165 days. Mumbai reported 1,712 new COVID-19 cases, 1,063 recoveries and four deaths on Monday, March 15, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,45,659. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 14,582 active cases and 3,18,642 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,535 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 92 per cent. At present 35,74,056 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 32 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 217 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

On Monday, March 15, Maharashtra recorded 15,051 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 23,29,464. Currently, there are 1,30,547 active cases in the state. With 10,671 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 21,44,743.

More than 48 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 52,909. While 6,23,121 persons are under home quarantine, 6,114 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 92.07 per cent, and 2.27 per cent respectively.

Meanwhile, India reported 24,492 new cases, 20,191 recoveries and 131 deaths taking the tally up to 1,14,09,831 on Monday, March 15. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,10,27,543 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,58,856 in the country. At present, there are 2,23,432 active cases. So far, 3,29,47,432 healthcare and frontline workers have been vaccinated in the country.
