1,103 new COVID-19 cases were found in Mumbai taking the caseload up to 3,29,843 while five people have lost their lives.

Amid COVID-19 cases surge in the city and the state since February 1, the doubling rate in Mumbai has dropped to 238 days. Mumbai reported 1,103 new COVID-19 cases, 654 recoveries and five deaths on Thursday, March 4, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,29,843. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 10,452 active cases and 3,07,027 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,497 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 93 per cent. At present 33,53,124 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 14 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 185 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

On Thursday, March 4, Maharashtra recorded 8,998 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 21,88,183. Currently, there are 85,144 active cases in the state. With 6,135 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 20,49,484.

More than 60 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 52,340. While 3,91,288 persons are under home quarantine, 4,109 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 93.66 per cent, and 2.39 per cent respectively.

Meanwhile, India reported 16,838 new cases, 13,819 recoveries and 113 deaths taking the tally up to 1,11,73,761 on Thursday, March 4. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,08,39,894 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,57,548 in the country. At present, there are 1,76,319 active cases. So far, 1,80,05,503 healthcare and frontline workers have been vaccinated in the country.
