Even though Mumbai experienced a surge in cases of coronavirus since the celebrations of Ganesh Chaturthi, since September, the city has witnessed a steady decline in the COVID-19 growth rate.

Moreover, the duration of patient doubling rate has also come down to 71 days. On Tuesday, 1,325 fresh cases were reported. However, 38 people have succumbed to the disease. As per reports, the total number of patients in Mumbai has gone up to 2,32,395. Of these, 1,98,127 or 85 per cent of patients have been cured. At present, 21,841 patients are undergoing treatment in Mumbai.

In addition, the mortality rate has also come down due to declining numbers. The death toll has risen to 9,504 so far. Despite the instructions of the Municipal Commissioner to increase the number of tests in Mumbai to 20,000, only 9,000 tests have been conducted in the last two days, according to sources.

Meanwhile, Mumbai’s civic body, the BMC, with the help of Google, mapped containment zones in slum pockets on Google maps in order for a person to get an idea of the active COVID-19 cases in the area he or she is visiting.

Furthermore, according to the new rules shared by the BMC, all residential buildings will now have to screen help and other employees who have access to housing societies such as drivers, sweepers and domestic security personnel. While retaining the current rule of sealing an entire building only if there are cases on two or more floors, or if there are more than 10 cases, BMC will ensure no one exits or enters the building if it has been sealed.
