FDA to whip transporters

Mumbai - If you are a transporter of food grains, then you need to be more careful while transporting the food items without permission from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It may prove costly for transporters if they transport food stuff without permission as they may be subjected to the prison or fine upto Rs 1 to 5 lakh. This provision has been made in the profession list of the FDA. According to this, food transporting vehicles are required to be registered with the FDA. Though this rule is there since 2011, it was not stringently implemented. Looking at this, FDA’s Thane division has taken a decision to strictly implement this rule. The same will also be followed in Mumbai and other parts of the state, informed a senior FDA officer. Transporters having annual income less than Rs 12 lakh will be fined up to Rs 1 lakh while income more than Rs 12 lakh will be subjected to attract fine of Rs 1-5 lakh. The FDA has appealed the transporters to register themselves to get the required license. One can also register online on this website www.fssai.gov.in.
