Mumbai – The Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra scheme will now be implemented in the civic hospitals as the BMC general body passed a proposal in this connection.

The Government of India has started generic medical stores in the country under Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana. Costly medicines for diseases such as diabetes, heart ailments, blood pressure, etc, are provided at affordable prices to the people. Taking a clue from this, BJP corporator Sandip Dilip Patel demanded that such generic medicine stores should also be opened in civic hospitals. Needy patients should get the benefit of such schemes, said Patel.

Supporting Patel, Abhijit Samant demanded that this scheme should also be implemented in other hospitals and clinics across the city. The Mayor accepted the suggestions of these corporators and forwarded it to the administration for further course of action.
Presently, there are three generic medicine stores in the city.
