On Thursday, September 9, the health ministry released a four-month data of the national vaccination drive across India which stated that the effectiveness of the coronavirus vaccine in preventing mortality after the first dose stood at 96.6 per cent.

This reiterates the fact that vaccines offer near-total protection against serious disease and death. Moreover, the real-time data of COVID-19 vaccination between April 18 and August 15, showed the vaccine effectiveness in preventing deaths further enhanced after the second dose – and stood at an impressive 97.5 per cent.

On the other hand, earlier on  Thursday, September 2, White House chief medical adviser Dr Anthony Fauci stated that three doses of the vaccine against coronavirus disease are likely to become the standard regimen for most people.

This comes amidst medical experts advising the US regulators on vaccine doses as they remain concerned over what they perceive as "political interference" by the Biden administration in the review process of booster shots with regards to the COVID-19 vaccine.

According to reports, while speaking to the media, Fauci stated, "I must say from my own experience as an immunologist, I would not at all be surprised that the adequate full regimen for vaccination will likely be three doses."
