The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) launched a new website- Stop Coronavirus in Mumbai. It has listed down guidelines, dos and don'ts, list of hospitals, precautionary measures etc.

In a bid to increase awareness among Mumbaikars in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) launched a new website- Stop Coronavirus in Mumbai.  It has listed down guidelines, dos, and don'ts, list of hospitals, precautionary measures etc. 

To effectively respond to the outbreak of Coronavirus, BMC has activated a helpline 1916. Citizens can call on this in case they need any assistance. BMC is also conducting regular training and briefings for its staff under the guidance of doctors.

Talking about the same, BMC officials stated, "BMC is committed to following the guidelines that have been prescribed by the Ministry of Health, Government of India. The guidelines ensure an end to end overview on dealing with diagnosed patients and their diagnosis, treatment, infection prevention and control and patient discharge policy. These guidelines are suitable for all those who are providing healthcare services, especially those who are delivering tertiary care. These can be adapted to local situations and patient profiles BMC strongly encourages all professionals to adhere to the guidelines set by the Ministry. It is recommended that you keep checking the Ministry's website regularly for revised updates" 

Here's the list of quarantined locations: 

  1. Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Associations of India (CREDAI)-Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industry (MCHI) has been tasked with identifying and designating 4-5 ideal buildings as quarantine locations if required.
  2. The Seven Hills Hospital building at Andheri East is proposed to be a quarantine facility and is being equipped with facilities for the same.
  3. The MCGM Centre for Municipal Capacity Building and Research (MCMCR) building at Chandivali, Powai is yet another spot being prepared for quarantine in case of an emergency.

At the time of writing this story, Maharashtra is had the highest number of cases that have tested positive for COVID-19. There are 39 active cases that are undergoing treatment.

The BMC hospitals claim that they are ready to handle situations, in case of an emergency. More than a 100 beds have been arranged and kept in isolation wards at Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, KB Bhabha Hospital in Bandra, KB Bhabha Municipal Hospital in Kurla and Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care in Jogeshwari.

Additionally, 24 health teams consisting of six members are deployed at every ward to monitor patients who may show symptoms of Coronavirus. Two teams will be deployed at the international airport to monitor the situation around the clock. State Health Minister Rajesh Tope stated that another laboratory will be set up at KEM hospital in the next two days and new laboratories will also come up at JJ Hospital.
