Coronavirus cases in the city of Mumbai and other nearby areas like Thane, Navi Mumbai, etc. have increased after Diwali, and this has raised concerns in the administration. As per reports, the number of patients who are recovering from the infection has also reduced, due to which the active cases in the areas have risen. Data released by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) reveals that a total of 1,503 patients are currently undergoing treatment in Navi Mumbai.

Over the last five days, 752 new COVID-19 patients were identified in Navi Mumbai, and before Diwali, the number of patients undergoing treatment had reduced to less than two thousand. On November 11, the area had 1, 247 active cases, and this has been increasing after the festivities.

Meanwhile, currently, the number of patients has increased from 100 to 200 per day, and since November 20, a total of 752 cases have been found and 587 patients have been cured. Officials have also suggested that necessary steps are being implemented as the cases could increase due to the second COVID-19 wave.

NMMC has been directed by the state government to ensure safety in the areas at all times, and also prepare for the rise in cases. As a result, the number of beds available with the municipality is being checked and the concerned department has mentioned that there is no need to reopen the closed COVID Care Centres. Several citizens stepped out of their homes during Diwali, and this led to crowding in different parts of the city, especially the markets, for shopping. Experts believe this could be the reason for the number of patients to increase again, and as a result, the state government has asked civic bodies to impose fine if people do not wear masks or don't follow rules as asked.

As per data released, a total of 180 new coronavirus patients and five deaths were found in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday, November 25, 2020. The total number of patients has reached 47,550, and the tally of the recovered stands at 45,072. Meanwhile, The death toll has risen to 969.
