India: Now, "This" Group Can Take Precautionary Doses

Presently, in India, the booster dose of the vaccine against coronavirus is only available to those over the age of 18. They can attain this at private vaccination centres.

On Thursday, May 12, the Central Ministry of Health and Family Welfare proclaimed that Indian citizens, as well as students travelling abroad, will soon be able to take the precautionary dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in accordance with the travel guidelines of the destination country. 

Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare took to Twitter to say, "Indian citizens & students travelling overseas can now take the precaution dose as required by the guidelines of the destination country. This new facility will be available soon on the CoWIN portal."

Later on Friday, May 13, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare released a statement wherein it elaborated on how the precaution dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for those traveling abroad can be administered in under 9 months to a minimum interval of 90 days which is 30 days form the administration date of the second dose. 

Presently, in India, the booster dose of the vaccine against coronavirus is only available to those over the age of 18. They can attain this at private vaccination centres. Currently, to be administered these precautionary doses, the adult should have completed nine months post their second dose. 

According to reports, official data suggests that 12.21 lakh in the 18-59 age group have been administered the third dose at private vaccination centres. On the other hand, in the group of - frontline workers, healthcare workers, and the elderly over 60 years of age 2.89 crore precautionary doses have been administered. For these groups, the precautionary dose is available at no cost at government vaccination centres, accounts suggest.
