Mumbai: International Yoga Day celebrated for the first time at Vidhan Bhavan

Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais accompanied by State Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Dy CM Devendra Fadnavis and Speaker Rahul Narvekar participated in a Yoga session 'Yog Prabhat at Vidhan Bhavan' on the occasion of International Day of Yoga in Mumbai on Wed (21 June). 


Stating that the whole world is looking forward to India getting yoga instructors today, the Governor urged India to produce yoga instructors who preserve the purity of yoga for the entire world. Intolerance is increasing in society. Religious and communal differences are intensifying. The governor said that through yoga, tolerance will increase and a peaceful and sane society can be created that respects the thoughts, religions, beliefs and viewpoints of others.


Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken yoga to the international level and today yoga has become a big movement. Stating that yoga is necessary in daily life for the balance of body and mind, the Chief Minister said that he will try to bring yoga to every household.


Yoga is an ancient form of medicine from India. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed the hope that 'healthy India' would be created through yoga asanas, saying that yoga is an effective remedy for increasing immunity against diseases and relieving stress.


The Yoga session, organised at Vidhan Bhavan for the first time, was also attended by the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Ambadas Danve, Members of State Legislature, officials and citizens.  Speaking on the occasion, the Governor called for promoting yoga in offices and in colleges and universities.
