In order to vaccinate more people across the state, Jumbo COVID-19 centres are being used to conduct the vaccination drive.

According to sources, in Navi Mumbai, a similar Jumbo facility is to be started at the export house to vaccinate the citizens. Speaking about the same, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) stated, "By the end of April, more centres are needed for the larger population of the elderly,"

Meanwhile, as Maharashtra recorded a maximum number of vaccinations at 2.67 lakh on March 15, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on March 16 urged the Centre to provide 2.2 crore vaccine doses with a supply of at least 20 lakhs each week. Tope, who is currently in New Delhi, had placed this demand before Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan.

Speaking about the same, Tope stated that the COVID-19 vaccination campaign is being implemented on a large scale successfully in the state. In view of the situation, health workers, emergency service providers as well as all those above 60 years of age are being vaccinated. Citizens over the age of 45 years and who have underlying health conditions too are getting the jab.

Moreover, the State Health Department has made a demand for setting up COVID-19 vaccination centres in 367 private and government hospitals. As per reports, permission has been given for setting up vaccination centres at 209 hospitals. Currently, the Centre procures the vaccine from manufacturers at about INR 220 per dose. Based on the demand, private hospitals are permitted to purchase doses for INR 150 and they, in turn, can charge INR 100 extra as a service fee from the vaccine recipient.
