Kirit Somaiya, a member of the BJP, recently took to Twitter to upload a video inside GT hospital in Mumbai. In the video, we can see shabby interiors, with damaged taps. The washrooms are seen to be overflowing with water. Somaiya criticising the hospital stated that he received the video from the daughter of a patient there.

In the past, in a strange incident took place, in the same hospital. A 40-year-old man, who was suspected to have contracted the coronavirus, fled his isolation ward in the GT hospital. The hospital staff alerted the VP Road Police immediately. However, they lodged a formal complaint with Azad Maidan Police later on. According to the Azad Maidan Police, the First Information Report (FIR) was lodged by the resident medical officer (RMO) who was on duty when the 40-year-old fled the hospital. The patient was admitted in Ward Number 8 where Dr Madhav Mondave and the nursing staff comprising Swapnil Kadam, Godavari Gadam, Poonam Patil, and Pandit Rathod were on duty, according to reports.

According to the FIR, the absconding patient told the nurses that he was going to the toilet. However, the nurses soon realised that the man was gone for an unusually long time and they started looking for him. However, they could not find him and alerted the doctors that the patient had gone missing. The doctor then immediately contacted the VP Road Police, about the incident since the patient lives near Moti Cinema. The following day, the hospital authorities went to Azad Maidan Police Station. The police had registered a case under Indian Penal Code’s Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and Section 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) as well as under the Epidemic Disease Act 1897 against the patient after the fiasco.
