Shivaji Park residents complain about a number of bodies being cremated at the cemetery

Locals staged a silent protest demanding the funeral of patients who are not from Dadar should be held in their respective area and not at the Shivaji park cemetery. The residents also stated that the administration has been ignoring complaints

Earlier in the month of May, several residents of Bandra had opposed and protested with regards to the deceased coronavirus patients being cremated in the area. A similar incident was recently reported in Dadar's Shivaji Park area where locals staged a silent protest demanding the funeral of patients outside of Dadar should be held in their respective area and not at the Shivaji park cemetery. 

The local residents stated that breathing clean air was their right and it was necessary for the officials to think about a healthy life of these locals. As per reports, residents also held placards which stated several slogans. thereby requesting the administration to take immediate action with regards to the same. That demanded that officials should think about the living and not just the dead. 

The number of coronavirus cases has increased in Mumbai and so has the number of deceased patients. While many hospitals are around this area in Mumbai, bodies of the patients are being brought to Shivaji park cemetery for the final rites. As per reports, around 25 to 30 funerals are being held every day, due to which pollution has increased, and locals have complained about skin-related and respiratory issues.

The residents also stated that the administration has been ignoring complaints with regards to the same. 

As of June 21, ward G-North and the total of 4,433 coronavirus cases out of which 1, 927 cases were active and 2,470 cases were discharged. The average daily growth of this ward is currently at 1.5 per cent and the doubling rate currently stands at 48 days. 

Further, G-North has a total of twelve containment zones and  219 buildings in the area were sealed.
