Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, while expressing his concerns over the dropped pace of COVID-19 vaccination, has set a target of completing 100% inoculation for first dose by November 30.

According to the reports, out of the targeted population of 91.44 million, Maharashtra has vaccinated only 67.52 million (73.79 per cent) till Tuesday, November 2. Out of these 67.52 million, 31.25 million are fully inoculated.

In the vaccination drive, cities like Mumbai, Pune, Bhandara are leading as their percentage of first dose vaccination is between 89 per cent and 99 per cent. Districts like Nandurbar, Akola, Beed, Buldhana, and Amravati are way behind in the vaccination drive as their percentage stands between 51-55 per cent.

Ahead of Thackeray's meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, November 3, he took a review of the vaccination coverage. He also urged the citizens to step up and get inoculated.

Thackeray, while appealing to the citizens, said that the coronavirus vaccination prevents the spread of the infection. He also asked the citizens to follow all the COVID-19 norms even though the cases are decreasing since the threat of coronavirus still persists.

Thackeray added that since the cases are dropping, fewer people are coming forward to get vaccinated, which shouldn't be the case. He has asked the concerned authorities to carry out special vaccination drives.

Meanwhile, health experts have predicted that a rise in coronavirus cases is likely post-Diwali due to crowding in the midst of the festival.
