In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and the impending monsoons, the Department of Women and Child Development has initiated implementing the ‘Nandurbar pattern’, which was followed in the tribal-dominated district to augment nutritional levels across Maharashtra.

According to reports, a ‘search operation’ is being conducted till August 31 to find children in Moderately Acute Malnourished (MAM) and Severely Acute Malnourished (SAM) categories. Moreover, officials have been asked to conduct check-ups and vaccinations for the coronavirus for children up to six years, pregnant women, lactating mothers along adolescent girls.

In addition, special teams of healthcare professionals have been appointed under the mission which includes community health officers, primary health centre medical officers and special medical officers, besides anganwadi supervisors, anganwadi workers and health workers.

On the other hand, amid the fear of a possible third wave of coronavirus in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is bracing up its preparations by expanding testing and contact tracing and boosting other medical resources.

For this, the civic body is providing 1 lakh beds with the help of private hospitals. Therefore, if the number of COVID-19 patients increases during the third wave there will be no shortage of beds in hospitals, the municipality said.

With the reopening of establishments like shops, hotels and malls, BMC also decided to increase the number of daily RT-PCR and rapid antigen tests being conducted in Mumbai. To make this possible, authorities will provide more testing kits, both RT-PCR as well as Rapid Antigen. They will also ensure the supply of the requisite number of kits to testing facilities.
